Campbell Walsh - Canoeing

As a highly competitive and focused athlete, Campbell Walsh has achieved a great deal in his favourite event, the canoe slalom. His Olympic career began in 2004, when he stormed onto the canoeing scene and took the silver medal in Athens. Passionate about his sport and always striving to better himself, Campbell is currently training intensively for the Beijing 2008 games.Campbell took on canoeing at the age of 8 at Airthery Loch, in Scotland. By the age of 11, he was competing in his first race in Kelso, Scotland. Campbell studied and trained hard to achieve well in canoeing throughout his school and University careers.

Coming onto the world scene, Campbell took his first medal in 2004 and was crowned World Champion in the men's K1 class. From this point he went on to claim four other world medal positions, along with the title of British Champion in 2006.Acting as a Sports Leaders' ambassador, Campbell is keen to help more instructors find out about the opportunity to gain coaching experience through the work available on American summer camps.

"What a great chance to gain some travelling experience whilst instructing in the sport you love!! There's so much to learn about being an instructor and a large amount of this comes from hands on experience. Camps will be gaining highly qualified instructors as the BCU (British Canoe Union) award is a comprehensive instructor's course which prepares its candidates for both canoeing and kayaking. The kids at camp will have a fantastic time working with the Sports Leaders team!" - Campbell Walsh
