As part of the British National team, Georgina Harland has received numerous medals in both European and World championships for her event- the modern pentathlon. Georgina's greatest achievement was the bronze medal she won at the Athens 2004 games, but her hopes are set higher yet; with Beijing less than a year away, Georgina is training hard to achieve that dream gold medal!
Riding became a huge part of Georgina's life when she added the event to her junior success in both running and swimming. Her strong form was noticed by a coach from her local pony club after she'd taken part in a competition held there, which featured four of the five disciplines she competes in today in the modern pentathlon. Her passion to compete led Georgina into intensive training, which provided her with the opportunity to travel as a reserve for the British team to the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
Having been introduced to the world scene, Georgina was set on making a name for herself and did so by taking the bronze at the World Championships in both 2001 and 2002. In 2004 she gained a position on British team for the Athens Olympics and took the Bronze medal, a fantastic achievement for her Olympic debut.
Taking the World Cup gold medal in 2007, Georgina is on course for potentially achieving the gold at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
Working with Sports Leaders, Georgina is helping to encourage greater numbers of horse riding instructors to coach on summer camps to gain the experience they need and to develop their abilities and knowledge.
"Horse riding is a brilliant sport for kids to get involved in and I think it's fantastic that camps can offer this as part of their daily programs. The kids at camp will be able to learn a lot from the qualified instructors coming in to teach them, and at the same time the instructors will learn a lot from the kids! To gain this kind of experience through instructing is invaluable and it's great that Camp Leaders are able to offer this." - Georgina Harland
