What is expected of a staff member?

You play an important role as a participant in the Camp Leaders program. You have the opportunity to be an ambassador for your country. We encourage you to bring cultural items form your home country to share with campers and fellow staff members. The Camp Director, the children at camp, and Camp Leaders staff expect you to not only act in a professional manner, but to represent your native country and share your leadership skills, talent, and positive attitude throughout the program.

The Camp Director expects you to be a responsible and dedicated staff member. The directors are counting on you to follow through with your work commitment and to demonstrate your leadership and role model qualities. They welcome your ability to:

  • Develop positive morale among campers and staff.
  • Create a caring, safe and supportive atmosphere.
  • Ask questions to camp supervisors when in doubt or ask for help to resolve a problem.
  • Be aware of each camper's needs.
  • Be fair toward the camper when disciplining or engaging in activities.
  • Honour each camper's unique abilities.

The Children at camp expect you to be their friend and teacher. The children are curious and excited to learn more about you and your culture. They welcome your ability to:

  • Be sensitive to each camper's needs and particular circumstance.
  • Be genuinely interested in each camper and include everyone in as many activities as possible.
  • Be willing to talk and listen.
  • Treat each camper with respect.

Camp Leaders expects you to be self-motivated, thoughtful, and hard working member of a camp staff. We welcome your ability to:

  • Be enthusiastic and positive.
  • Be open-minded and flexible to new opportunities and experiences.
  • Share in the spirit of inter-cultural exchange.
  • Effectively communicate with children of diverse backgrounds and clearly express questions and concerns with your supervisor.
  • Develop long-lasting friendships
