Sports Leaders Swimming Teaching Course

Camp Leaders is excited to be able to offer to you a fantastic training opportunity during the Easter holidays. Through our new program, Sports Leaders, we're able to provide training for our participants to obtain ASA Level 1 Certificate For Teaching Aquatics. This will allow you to teach swimming both on camp in America and also here in the UK when you return.


Working with the Swimming Olympic Medallist, Steve Parry, we've secured funding for the course so that we're able to offer it to you with a fantastic reduction. The course is regularly £370, but with our funding the cost drops down to £210. With further funding we're also able to help participants claim back up to £185!!! This is an amazing opportunity for anyone who is interested in taking part in swim instructing.


Taking part in the course will not only allow you to teach both on camp and in the UK but also allow you to receive the added benefits of the Sports Leaders program, which include:

ASA Level 1 Certificate For Teaching Aquatics

Cost of the program: £210 (***£160 saving off the regular ASA price!***)
Course Length: 4/5 Days
Dates and Locations: March And April 2008, Throughout England
Pre-Requisites: Strong Swimmer

As the governing body for swimming instructors in the UK, the ASA award will stand anyone completing the course in good stead to work in swimming pools up and down the country. Due to its high status here in the UK, it's also highly regarded in America and anyone completing the training program will be able to teach on summer camps across the States.
Below is a detailed outline of the course content that staff members with this qualification will have been through:

  • Unit 1 - Core Theory
    Technical Knowledge, Health and Safety, Conducting a session, Aquatic Activity and Healthy Life Style, Support Structures, Child Protection
  • Unit 2 - Theory
    National plan for teaching swimming, Long term athlete
    development
  • Unit 3 - Practical - Non Swimmer to Advanced
    The theoretical training knowledge gained in units 1 and 2
    are applied as practical elements her in stage 3. The applicant will complete four hours of practical training with swimmers ranging from none swimmer/beginner to improver and finally advanced.

The course is significantly subsidized to give as many people as possible the opportunity to take part. We're also able to provide hands on experience for our newly qualified instructors. Once you've completed the qualification you'll enter into a ten hour volunteer experience program with your local swimming clubs and centres to help you build up the experience you need before you travel to America. This is a fantastic scheme to help you learn on the job and gain insight from the people who've been teaching for years.
