The qualification requirement set out is provided by the governing body for canoeing in the UK, but should you feel that a qualification you hold is equivalent to the one laid, please e-mail Sports Leaders to let us know. The award itself is outlined below with a link to more information about gaining an instructors qualification. Although we do not currently offer training for canoeing, we always encourage people passionate about the sport to take up an instructors qualification as it's a great way to develop your skills and techniques.
British Canoe Union Level 1 - As part of the level one award, participants will have acquired the knowledge to coach various disciplines of paddle sports ranging from canoe/kayak to straight-running/flat hulled and crew/solo activity. Through activities and games, the course prepares the instructors to teach lifting, carrying and launching, readiness, paddling, turning and controlling, capsizing and personal risk management. Time is also taken to develop the technical and tactical areas of the skills, all of which provides the applicant with a strong background from which they will be able to coach kids at camp.
