The qualification requirement set out is provided by the governing body for climbing in the UK, but should you feel that a qualification you hold is equivalent please e-mail Sports Leaders to let us know. The award itself is outlined below with a link to more information about gaining an instructors qualification. Although we do not currently offer training for climbing, we always encourage people passionate about the sport to take up an instructors qualification as it's a great way to develop your skills and techniques.
Single Pitch Climbing Award - In the UK, the single pitch award allows climbers to climb and lead on walls and rock faces up to a maximum height of 50m, with accessible crags. As a pre-requisite to coming onto the course, applicants must already hold a first-aid award and have at least 12 months climbing experience, both of which will benefit them during their time on camp. The course itself covers equipment, anchors, belaying, abseiling, along with instruction on the climbing environment and supervision/instruction. Using the knowledge and skills gained from the course, staff members with this qualification will be able to instruct classes for various skill levels at camp.
