Featured on many camps as a traditional activity, riflery is a popular daily activity for kids to take part in. It is also an activity that requires a tremendous amount of safety and precaution, which is why anybody taking part in the riflery leaders program has to be experienced in handling rifles and also working with kids around them.
The riflery program can vary dependent on the camp you work at with some focusing on air rifles, .22's and range shooting, whilst others will offer clay pigeon shooting. Your daily work will focus on helping the kids to improve their ability with a rifle, which can range from kids who have never held a rifle to those who are working to the top level of the NRA awards.
A lot of camps use the NRA awards as a method of recording the progress of their campers, so you'll be involved in assessing the kids as they attempt to move up through the levels. But, be sure that whatever type of camp you end up working on, you're not only going to be involved in the riflery but also every other activity on camp!
