Why should I teach circus skills or magic at camp?

Demonstrate your favourite skill, have a blast and inspire a future generation of performers - circus jobs abroad are a fantastically unique and magic way to spend your summer.

Camp Directors are looking for flair and pizzaz. It is also essential that you're comfortable to teach this activity to campers. Being professionally trained will be of benefit to you as it informs a camp director you’re fully aware of the safety procedures and requirements for your activity area.

Tell me more about being a camp magician...

From Dynamo to Cirque du Soleil - there is something fantastical when it comes to watching magic or circus performances. Both magic and circus lessons at camp provide campers with a chance to try something out of the ordinary - from juggling and clowning to the tightrope and trapeze - campers all ages love to be part of the trick and performance.

Whether you’re in the circus or a camp magician you’ll likely spend your mornings and afternoons running interactive activities where you’ll teach the children the techniques associated with your skill.

The size of the circus or magic department varies from camp to camp, some camps even fully specialising in both. This really is your chance to run away with the circus.

Magic and circus skills are all about the performance. No matter your skill speciality, from close-up magic to juggling or fire breathing, you should be confident.

Ever since I was little I always learnt how to do card tricks and did them in front of my family. I never realised I could actually do them at camp.

The campers faces when I’d taught them a magic trick was great but then watching them do it to their cabin mates was priceless!

Frequently asked questions

How can I make my circus and magic application stand out?

Circus and magic jobs abroad require experience, practise your skills and build up your show reel. Look at local circus and clown schools alongside gymnastic centres for acrobatics.

How do I become a magician or circus instructor at camp?

When you begin your application you’ll be asked to select your top skills. You’ll be able to choose your specialised skill set - from clowning to acrobatics- go into detail about what you’re going to bring to the role, your skill level and if you’re already qualified. A camp director will then be able to assess if you’re a good fit and invite you to their camp.

How many children should I expect to teach in one lesson?

Campers will come down to the session as a division (age group). Divisions can range from 10-30 campers. You’ll have the assistance of counselors but it will be up to you to instruct a small group.
