Your interview will take around an hour, however give yourself about 30 minutes extra, incase it goes over.

Why do I need an interview?

We interview everyone coming on our program to know that everyone’s doing it for the right reasons. It is our responsibility to our summer camps that you will be a good fit for camp and will be suitable to work in an environment with children. It is also part of the agreement we have with the US Department of State and their visa regulations.

Can I apply from anywhere in the world?

Yes, we have 15 offices all around the world and will be able to help you with your application. However there can be some limitations based on US visa regulations, so be sure to give the office a call before so we can advise.

Is the deposit part of the full amount?

Yes it does, your deposit is included in our full advertised program fee.

What if I don't get accepted after the interview?

If for any reason you are not accepted on to the program then we will not charge you the full deposit fee. We will also take the time to talk though your interview and may be able to recommend a more suitable program for you.

When will Camp Directors be able to see my application?

Your application will go live once your sections are complete, you’ve got a green tick next to everything and you’ve paid your first instalment.

I have filled in all my application, what’s next?

Make sure you’ve paid your first instalment, and let’s get started with your documents. The easiest thing for you to get done now is your three references and upload your passport.

Do I have to do a showcase video?

We love showcases and our summer Camp Director’s love them even more. Some camps will only view participants profiles who feature a showcase video! So make sure you have yours to quickly increase your chances of getting placed.

What does ‘On Review’ mean?

On review means a camp is looking at your profile and may want to approach you for an interview!

What if I don’t want to go to the camp that has me ‘on review’?

We advise you take every interview opportunity you get, as it’s very hard to judge a camp by its website, and you get much more of a real feel for the camp at the interview. Depending on the reasoning behind why you don't want to go to this camp, it could affect your refund policy.

Can I contact summer camps that I'm on review with?

Yes you can. Most camps have contact emails available on their website. Feel free to send a quick email to introduce yourself, and mention you see that you are on review with them. We’ve heard some great placement stories which started with a short email.

Can other summer camps see my application when I'm on review with a camp?

When you are on review with a camp, other camp Directors won’t be able to see you. Camps do have a time limit in which they can view your profile but we want them to have full access to your profile when making their decision

I was on review, and now I am not and I didn't hear from the camp, what do I do?

Don't worry, you are once again visible to all our camps. People can be on review a number of times before they are placed. It’s completely normal.

Why is my visa end date when I finish camp, not 30 days after?

Your visa end date will show as the last day that you work at camp. This doesn’t mean you can’t travel, it just means can’t work from this date. Your 30 days of travel is often called a ‘grace period’. Your grace period lasts 30 days and begins from the last day of your contract.

Do I need an ESTA?

As you are working and you will be entering the US on your J-1 Cultural Exchange visa, you don’t need an ESTA. Please don’t apply for an ESTA unless you leave the States and decide to come back into the US.

I don't know my travel plans yet, can I book my return flight at camp?

We need proof of your return to your home country for insurance purposes and to ease your process through immigration. If you’re really not sure, then our advice is to aim for NYC. New York has great travel links so is easily accessible no matter where you end up.

Where do I get my camp contract from?

Once you have been placed, your summer camp will either email your contract to you or upload it to your campminder account. Please sign and date your contract before uploading.

Why do I need a police check?

It is a mandatory step in the our application process as well as a legal requirement to enter the states on a J-1 Cultural Exchange Visa.

What embassy confirmation do I upload?

Once you have booked your embassy appointment, you will receive an confirmation email. This will have 2 barcodes and the date and location of your appointment. Please upload the whole document.

What certificates do I need to upload?

You only need to upload certificates if you are going to be a specialist at summer camp. For example, if your going to be a Lifeguard at camp you will need to upload your lifeguard qualification.
