“What’s your new year’s resolution?”
With 2018 just around the corner, it’s all about ‘new year, new me’ quotes and plans we don’t always keep. But why not make a change this year.
We looked at the top 5 new year’s resolutions and worked out why going to summer camp is the best way to keep them all…
Be more healthy
Being healthier and losing weight is top of the list when it comes to making new year’s resolutions. Trying on your jeans after the turkey, roast potatoes and one or two chocolate celebrations - we all promise ourselves the same - that this year we will be good, get fit and stay healthy.
Sadly, as we all know, it’s always a bit more difficult to commit and as the saying goes "the diet starts tomorrow".
But before you give up, why not take a different route and head to summer camp? An active summer where you’ll be canoeing, rock climbing and running about in the great outdoors!
Heading to camp is a great way to be more healthy. You’ll be signing up to an energy-filled summer, with people who also love being out doing things. You’ll definitely become much fitter than being sat at a desk all summer… if you can resist the American burgers, ice-cream and pizza that is…
When looking back at the year, it’s always great to see how much you’ve done and where you’ve travelled.
Travelling opens up so much of the world. We experience other cultures, see new sights and enjoy new experiences. But the best part of travelling is that you’re never quite done.
America. With its famous cities, lakes, mountains, surf beaches, breathtaking canyons, deserts, waterfalls and so much more - it’s the perfect place to explore, no matter what interests you.
Going to camp means you can experience the USA from a unique viewpoint. You’ll meet so many Americans at camp who will want to share their culture, interests and even their home with you.
You’ll then get a further 30 days of travel, on the J1 visa, which means you can plan that epic road trip you’ve always wanted to do. You’re already there, so why not take part in an adventure which will make 2018 the best year yet!
Meet new people
A top resolution in the UK is to meet new people. To get out there, overcome shyness and spend time with people who matter.
Summer camp ticks this box easily.
There’s a phrase which is “Camp friends are the best friends” and this can be confirmed by any returner.
At summer camp you’ll meet people from all around the world. Outgoing, energetic people who want to travel and do something fun with their summer.
The friends you make at camp will become some of the strongest friendships you’ll have in your lifetime.
Spend less time on your phone
Whether it be a laptop, tablet or your TV - we all spend hours a day procrastinating in front of screens.
So this year, why not spend less time on your phone.
At summer camp you’ll be outside, swimming, crafting or climbing - the days will be jam-packed with activities and your evenings filled with s'mores, bonfires and entertainment - you won’t even notice your phone isn’t in your hand. Summer camp is a great way to get back to basics and to have fun while doing it.
At Camp Leaders, we believe that no matter what you do, you should be happy. It’s a simple philosophy and one we stick to every day.
For each of us, going to summer camp made us extremely happy. We each had the best summer of our lives and we know you will too.
Travel, meet new people and have an amazing summer. Summer camp is a happier place than disneyland. You’ve got to experience it to believe it.
...And finally, keep your new year’s resolutions
They say it takes 21 days to form a habit and 66 days for it to properly stick.
It just so happens that camp is 9 weeks long, which is 63 days… coincidence? We think not.
By going to summer camp, you’re promising yourself the perfect amount of time for each of your resolutions to be set in stone. You won’t even notice it’s happened but you’ll return being fitter, more social, more travelled and happier.
