Why should I teach archery at camp?

Shooting arrows, playing games and creating competitions - if you love archery and would really like the opportunity to teach, then this is a fantastic way to combine your passion with travelling the USA. Archery jobs abroad don’t get better than this.

Archery coaches are often in high demand at summer camps. Camp directors are looking for someone who is passionate about archery and who can inspire the campers within their sessions. If you haven’t got any qualifications in archery, but some great prior experience, a camp may be interested in hiring you for this role and train you in-house.

What does an archery instructor do?

Whatever camp you're at, you'll be coaching kids who want to have fun and improve their skills - you’ll be teaching different groups 5-6 times a day.

You may work with a variety of kids, depending on what type of camp you go to. Specialist sports camp jobs will see you working with kids who are more advanced, but as most campers don't have access to archery at home, they will be beginners. Some of the activities include shooting ceramic pots or mystery balloons, and you can also organize competitions to make it more exciting for the kids.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I apply for archery instructor jobs at summer camp?

When starting your application you’ll be asked to select your top skills. Choose archery. Go into detail about what you’re going to bring to the role, your skill level and if you’re already qualified. A camp director will then be able to assess if you’re a good fit and invite you to their camp.

How can I make my application stronger without any qualifications?

Archery is all about having the knowledge and practice. The more time you can gain experience, the better and stronger your application becomes. Try finding a local archery club to see if you can gain any advice or lessons.

How many children will I be coaching in one session?

Campers come down to sessions in age group divisions. These divisions can vary in skill level, but are usually made up of 10-13 campers. You’ll then be paired with an individual camper or a group, and don’t worry - you’ll be supported by your fellow specialists and counselors.

Should I pack any archery equipment, like my bow or arrows?

Camp will provide you with most of the equipment, but you can feel free to bring your own.
