Leaving on a jet plane

Getting to summer camp

Depending on the country from which you are travelling, flights may be arranged for you, or you will have organised your own. If you’re unsure about your flight arrangements then check the ‘Travel and Flights’ section of your Camp Leaders profile.

For flights organised by us, you will receive an email notification of your outbound flight, no later than 10 days before your travel date.

Once you receive this email, sign in to your Camp Leaders account head to the 'Travel and Flights' section to access your flight booking reservation number as well as all the instructions for getting from the US airport to your camp. You can view everything you need to know about your flights through Check My Trip.

Delays

You may be held up with flight delays. If your flight is significantly delayed at your home airport you should call your local Camp Leaders office and let them know what is happening. We will be on hand to help and let camp know.

If your flight arrives late, call your camp as soon as you can. The likelihood is they will be aware of the delay and will have a plan in place, because they’re great like that.

You’ve arrived

Welcome to the USA!

You’ve just got off the plane and now you’re waiting in-line at Customs and Immigration. There are some things that you need to know to make sure that everything goes as smoothly as possible – so read this section carefully!

You must take Customs & Immigration as seriously as the immigration official takes it. They have the power to deny you entry to the US – so don't act inappropriately. Take a deep breathe, you’ll be just fine.

ESTA

You may have heard of ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization), which is the online application you have to submit before you can visit America as a tourist.

You don't need this.

You've already got a visa, so you don't need an ESTA to travel.

Immigration

When you arrive at immigration, you may have quite a long wait, depending on how many international flights have arrived just before yours. Take the time to read over your ‘Onward Travel’ instructions so that you know what to do once you get through immigration.

Make sure you have the following documentation ready: 'Your passport' 'Your DS2019 form & SEVIS receipt' 'Customs declaration form (which you'll be given on the plane)' and 'The immigration officer may also ask to see your camp contract or itinerary, so have those in your hand luggage just in case'.

In addition to reviewing your documents, an immigration officer will also ask you some questions: such as ‘What are you doing in the USA?’ Be prepared for this and please answer appropriately.

They will also take your photograph and fingerprints.

Connecting flights in the USA

If you’re connecting onto another flight in the USA, and you have a boarding pass for that flight, just check the information screens for your departure gate. Don’t be afraid to ask a member of the airport staff if you’re not sure.

Don't forget that you’ll need to collect your luggage, take it through the customs control and then re-check it for your next flight.

Getting to summer camp

You’re almost there. This is where you need to check your 'onward travel instructions' on your Camp Leaders profile.

Make sure that you've printed off them off before you go, or access them through the free airport wifi.

You've got this.

Welcome to your summer of a lifetime
