Beginners Guide: Planning your USA Summer Camp J1 Experience


You’ve just decided that summer 2017 is the summer you’re never going to forget! Signing up for the Camp Leaders program is exciting stuff - the first step towards your J1 summer. We’re here to make this process as easy as possible for you, we want you to spend your time excited to work at your USA Summer Camp, not bogged down in paperwork. So, we’ve thrown together this handy little Beginners Guide to help you get off to a great start - that amazing J1 summer is just around the corner! You can get those Camp Directors looking at your application in just 5 steps -


1. Signing Up


If you haven’t already, you can sign up by hitting the ‘Apply’ button on our website. Enter a few details and hooray you have yourself a Camp Leaders profile. Keep an eye on your phone and emails over the next few days as the Camp Leaders team will contact you to arrange your next step…


2. Telephone Interview


It’s not as scary as it sounds, so don’t worry. We’ll run through some short questions with you over the phone just to make sure the program is the right fit for you! It’s also a handy chance to chat with someone who’s been to camp before, so if you have some questions be sure to jot them down before the call.


3. Secure Your Place


At the end of the telephone interview, we’ll let you know if your application is successful and if it is then it’s time to get excited; you’re going to summer camp! The team will ask you if you’d like to secure your place on the program, to do this all you have to do is get in your €59 deposit. You can do this over the phone with us at the end of your telephone interview, or online through your profile.


4. Profile Review


Once you’ve paid your deposit, we’ll move your profile to the next stage - so you might see it change a little with a few more sections for you to check out. Make sure to keep an eye on your phone and emails over the next few days as a member of our National Support Team will be reaching out to your very soon. Our National Support Team are a group of summer camp experts who work with Camp Leaders to review profiles and support participants. They will reach out to you to arrange a time and date to meet up with you locally (a chance for nice cuppa in Starbucks!) They will run through your profile with you and get to know you a little bit more so they can add to your application and help you impress those Camp Directors! They’ve also been to camp before and have some great stories to share with you!


5. Complete Your Application


At this point, your goal is to get to the ‘Ready To Hire’ stage - which is when our Camp Directors can see you on the system and get in touch with you. It’s pretty exciting stuff - so we want to get you there as soon as possible. To do this, your profile must reach a high standard! We’ll be checking in on your profile every now and then to make sure it’s coming along nicely. As soon as all the sections on your profile are complete we’ll move you to “Ready To Hire’ and call you to let you know (and have a mini celebration with you!)

At the ‘Ready To Hire’ stage Camp Directors can see your profile, get in touch with you and hire you to work at their US Summer Camp for the summer!
