Why should I teach circus skills at camp?

Practice your favourite circus skill, inspire the next generation of performers, and have a blast. Circus jobs abroad are a fantastically unique and magical way to spend your summer.

From Dynamo to Cirque du Soleil - there is something fantastical when it comes to watching magic or circus performances. Both magic and circus lessons at camp provide campers with a chance to try something out of the ordinary - from juggling and clowning to the tightrope and trapeze - campers all ages love to be part of the trick and performance.

Camp Directors are looking for flair and pizzaz - but they're also looking to ensure the safety of everyone at camp. If you'd be comfortable teaching a specific circus skill to a group of campers, you might be a perfect fit for a circus role at camp. There are also magic roles available at camp for people who might not be fully comfortable in the circus tent.

What does a circus skills instructor do?

Whatever camp you're at, you'll be playing and coaching kids who want to have fun and improve their skills - you’ll be teaching different groups 5-6 times a day.

You may work with a variety of kids, depending on what type of camp you go to. Specialist sports camp jobs will see you working with kids who are more advanced, at other camps, you'll have campers who are typically less advanced. To nail down one of these roles, make sure to add your preferences and skills to your profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I apply for circus jobs at summer camp?

When starting your application you’ll be asked to select your top skills. Choose acrobatics, trapeze, or anything you're good at and is connected to circus skills. Go into detail about what you’re going to bring to the role, your skill level and if you’re already qualified. A camp director will then be able to assess if you’re a good fit and invite you to their camp.

How can I make my application stronger without any qualifications?

Circus jobs abroad require experience, so practise your skills and build up your show reel. Look at local circus schools alongside gymnastic centres for acrobatics. The more experience working with children you can gain before the summer, the better your application.

How many children will I be coaching in one session?

Campers come down to sessions in age group divisions. These divisions can vary in skill level, but are usually made up of 10-30 campers. You’ll then be paired with an individual camper or a smaller group, and don’t worry - you’ll be supported by your fellow specialists and counsellors.

Should I pack any equipment?

Camp will provide you with most of the equipment, but you can feel free to bring your own.
