Why should I teach basketball at camp?

Love basketball? Why not spend a summer shooting hoops in the home of the NBA? Summer camp is one of the best places to work basketball jobs in America. You'll coach kids at summer camp, with the opportunity to travel America for 30 days after camp.

Camp Directors look for people who can teach their campers about basketball. It's not all about talent - after all, you'll be coaching groups of children at camp. If you're willing to work on your skills, and help kids work on theirs, you could be a great fit as a basketball instructor at summer camp.

What does a basketball instructor do?

Whatever camp you're at, you'll be playing and coaching kids who want to have fun and improve their skills - you’ll be teaching different groups 5-6 times a day.

You may work with a variety of kids, depending on what type of camp you go to. Specialist sports camp jobs will see you working with kids who are more advanced, and probably play on a team outside of camp. At other camps, you'll have campers who are typically less advanced. To nail down one of these roles, make sure to add your preferences and skills to your profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I apply for basketball jobs at summer camp?

When starting your application you’ll be asked to select your top skills. Choose basketball. Go into detail about what you’re going to bring to the role, your skill level and if you’re already qualified. A camp director will then be able to assess if you’re a good fit and invite you to their camp.

How can I make my application stronger without any qualifications?

It’s all about your coaching experience. The more experience and coaching hours you can gather before camp the better. If this is your dream job and you want to support the application you can contact your local basketball teams for ideas and lessons.

How many children will I be coaching in one session?

Campers come down to sessions in age group divisions. These divisions can vary in skill level, but are usually made up of 10-13 campers. You’ll then be paired with an individual camper or a group, and don’t worry - you’ll be supported by your fellow specialists and counselors.

Should I pack any basketball equipment?

Summer camps will provide equipment for your lessons, so no need to pack a hoop or a bag of basketballs! You’ll be expected to wear the appropriate clothing and footwear. Pack sunglasses, hat, plenty of spare socks, basketball shoes and some cool jerseys of your fave team to switch with campers and staff.
