Camping Instructor Jobs

Are you?

Alert, adventurous, a lover of the outdoors

Bonus Qualifications

Qualifications for most camp jobs aren't necessary, but some outdoor skills are always a huge bonus. If you can start a campfire, set up a tent, navigate through the woods, or provide first aid, you'll be well set for your dream outdoor job this summer. Just let us know in your application!

Why should I be a camping instructor?

You’ll get to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the natural landscapes in the United States - which makes it one of the top camping jobs abroad. People looking for camping jobs in the UK, Ireland, Europe, and even as far away as Australia and New Zealand choose Camp Leaders each year.

If you love the outdoors and will be confident leading a group of campers in outdoor excursions, then pitch in your application. You'll show your campers how to appreciate the great outdoors - and find a better connection in the woods than you'll ever get from your wifi signal.

What does a camping instructor do?

You’ll be responsible for organising trips for the campers that could last anywhere between 1 night and 2 weeks. You'll head out on a hike or a canoe trip towards your campsite. You'll then have a few things to do - camping site jobs include setting up tents, lighting a campfire, and cooking dinner.

You’ll be able to teach campers the basics of camping such as pitching a tent and cooking over a fire (obviously, roasting marshmallows and making some tasty s'mores will be the first thing on your agenda!).

Frequently Asked Questions

How much experience do you need for camping jobs?

If you don't have copious amounts of experience in your activity, there’s no need to worry. You’ll be teaching kids who are just there to have fun - most will even be complete beginners. You’ll also be fully trained before your campers arrive, and you’ll be supported by the other counsellors at your camp throughout the summer.

Will I get days off in between trips?

Of course! Everyone needs time to recharge their batteries after an exciting but hectic week at camp. You'll have days off, as well as the opportunity to explore the local area and further afield. Most camps will give you a 24 hour block of free time every week, whilst some others provide 2-4 days off in a row every few weeks.

Will I need to bring any camping equipment?

Summer camps should provide most equipment and deliver it to the campsite, so no need to pack a bag full of tents! You will be expected to wear appropriate clothing and footwear, but your camp will let you know the finer details before you go.

How many campers should I expect to have with me on each camping trip?

Campers come down to sessions in age group divisions. These divisions can vary in skill level, but are usually made up of 10-30 campers. You’ll then be paired with an individual camper or a group, and don’t worry - you’ll be supported by your fellow specialists and counsellors.

Don't miss out on your ultimate summer camping job.
