When does camp start?

Camp starts between early May and mid-June.

How long does camp last?

Most camps last around 9 weeks for camp counselors. After camp, you have up to 30 days to travel around America.

What is a camp counselor?

Camp counselor is the name given to staff who work directly with the children. You can be a general camp counselor or an activity specialist. Activity specialists focus on leading one type of activity at camp.

Why do I have to pay to go to camp?

Camp Leaders is a cultural exchange program that requires visa sponsorship, health insurance, 24/7 support while you're in the U.S., and full preparation before you travel. Your program fee covers these essential services, helping to make sure you're safe, supported, and ready for your experience at camp.

How much will I earn?

You'll earn money for your time at camp, often called "pocket money." Camp Leaders participants earn at least $2250.

Can I choose which camp I go to?

You’ll be matched with a camp based on your skills, interests, and the camp’s needs. You can share preferences, but the final placement is made to ensure the best fit.

Who else will I be working with?

American camps hire staff globally, so you'll make new friends from around the world. Most staff are aged between 18-25, but senior staff are often older and some camps have junior counselors in training who are typically younger.

Do I need to have experience working with children?

No. As long as you're willing to work with children, you can apply for summer camp. Any previous experience is a bonus, no matter how small.

Where are the camps located?

We work with over 650 camps across the entire United States, including Hawaii and Alaska. The majority of our camps are located in the Northeast.

Will I get time off at camp?

Yes. Every camp schedule is different but you'll get some time off at least once a day, as well as a number of full days off during the summer.

Can I travel after camp?

Yes. One of the best things about working at a summer camp is that you can travel for 30 days after your camp contract end.

What's camp food like?

Camp kitchens serve hearty, family-style meals designed to fuel active days. Think comfort food classics like burgers, pizza, pasta, and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Most camps accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies, and many counselors are pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of camp meals.

What happens if I get sick or injured?

Every camp has trained medical staff on-site, and your Camp Leaders program includes comprehensive health insurance. Camps take health and safety seriously, with protocols in place for everything from minor scrapes to more serious situations. You're never alone when it comes to your wellbeing.

What will my accommodation be like?

Most staff live in shared cabins with other counselors. It’s rustic but part of the authentic camp experience.

Can I contact home while I’m at camp?

Yes. Most camps have internet, and while phone signal isn’t always perfect, you’ll have ways to keep in touch with family and friends.
