Why should I be a golf instructor at summer camp?

If you’re passionate about golf and want to get that coaching experience to the next level then this is the summer job for you. Depending on your camp’s location you will also be able to take trips to local 9 hole courses, par 3 courses and more.

You’ll be teaching lessons to campers with more energy than a Ryder Cup Sunday. They’ll be eager to start swinging clubs and whacking balls so you will definitely need to bring a level of maturity and responsibility to the role. It’s all about being able to make any camper feel like they could be the next Tiger Woods or Rory Mcilroy!

What does a golf instructor do?

Golf is a key sport at most American summer camps. Whether you’re looking to work at a top sports camp with high quality players or traditional style summer camps with a more focused program, there will be an expectation on the golf specialists to deliver a strong and engaging summer program to suit campers of all ages and skill levels.

You’ll lead 5-6 activity periods a day to campers of all ages, from group lessons to one to one private sessions. A golf instructor at summer camp needs to be able to control groups of campers and be resourceful with equipment. You’ll be competent in planning lessons and be able to come up with daily fun games to keep campers excited about coming to golf.

Teaching golf was some of the most fun I ever had at work. Not only did I spend my summer playing a sport I love, I was able to shape the young minds of the future in everything we did.

Teaching golf is so much more than sport itself. It’s teaching responsibility for the course and equipment; sportsmanship amongst competitors; honesty in ones performance; patience through challenge; and that success comes from intentional practice and reflection. I can’t wait for my next round!

The campers will be coming with a wide range of abilities. From your first time players to some absolute superstars.
