Cooking Instructor Jobs

Are you?

Creative, patient, passionate about food

Bonus Qualifications

Cooking jobs require no specific qualification. Just bring your passion for food - after all, you'll really just be making (and eating) delicious snacks all summer long! It's good to brush up on food safety and hygiene knowledge, so consider taking a course online before the summer.

Why should I teach cooking at camp?

If you're looking for cooking jobs abroad, the better question is probably "why shouldn't I teach cooking at camp?". You'll spend 8-10 weeks from June to August making yummy snacks, and it's up to you to decide what they are. Whatever you're in the mood for on any given day, you can make it at camp. It's a little like working a chef's job abroad, except that you'll be cooking for yourself (and your campers).

You can make cookies, cupcakes, or delicious s'mores, or throw in a healthy option when you feel like you need to ease off a bit. Teaching your campers about nutrition, and how to choose healthy foods, is an important job - especially in the "convenience food culture" of the modern world.

If you're interested in jobs with cooking involved, and would like to pass on your knowledge and passion to others, pop your application in and get ready for your summer of a lifetime.

What does a cooking instructor do?

You’ll be teaching 4-6 classes throughout the day, so you can get creative with each class, each day.

In cooking jobs at camp, you'll work with lots of different kids, as they'll rotate through your activity with their counselors. You'll have lots of help in the kitchen, but you'll get to make all the decisions about which recipes to follow. Your campers will range in age and ability, so simple recipes will be a great way to start out.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many children should I expect to teach?

Campers will come down to the session in age group divisions. There will be at least 1 counselor for every 6-10 campers, so you can expect groups of between 10-30 people. The counselors will help their own groups with their cooking projects, so you'll just have to oversee everyone and help out as needed.

How can I make my cooking job application stand out?

Any experience with cooking, baking, or otherwise making delicious food will be a bonus to your application. It's a good idea to take some simple cooking or food safety courses either online or in a class - but if you just like to cook in your own kitchen, that's fine too! Experience working with kids is also a bonus at camp.

How do I apply for cooking jobs abroad at camp?

When starting your application you'll be asked to select your top skills. Choose cooking. Go into detail about what you will bring to the role, your skill level and mention any qualifications you have. A camp director will then be able to assess if you're a good fit and invite you to their camp.

Will camp provide the ingredients and equipment for the cooking sessions?

Camp should provide equipment and ingredients for your sessions, so you shouldn't need to pack a bag full of blenders or mixing bowls. You will need to dress appropriately for health and safety, but your camp will let you know the finer details of everything involved before you arrive.
