About Camp

Summer camp is a U.S. tradition where kids grow through activities, supported by local and international staff. Camps run 9–11 weeks, followed by 30 days to travel. You’ll be paid, work with people from around the world, and need a J-1 visa. Camp Leaders supports and sponsors you every step of the way.

We work with a variety of U.S. camps; faith-based, special needs, underprivileged, and speciality. You don’t need to follow a specific faith or have special needs experience, just the right attitude. Our team handpicks camps and matches you based on your preferences to ensure the best fit and experience.

We work with over 500 camps across the U.S., mainly in the Northeast. While you can’t choose a specific location, we match you with camps based on your skills and preferences. You'll interview with a camp before placement and have 30 days to travel the U.S. after camp ends.

Campers are typically aged 6–16, though this varies by camp. Camp sizes differ, and you can ask about specifics during your interview. If working with special needs campers, you'll support individuals with various challenges; making a real impact on their summer experience.

Life at camp includes shared accommodation, provided bedding, and camper-friendly meals with options for dietary needs. You'll get daily breaks and full days off to relax or explore. Most camps offer Wi-Fi access at set times, and phones must be stored during work hours. UK networks work in the U.S., but using Wi-Fi apps is recommended to avoid charges.

Summer camps offer roles like camp counselor, activity specialist, support staff, and special needs counselor. No qualifications are needed; just enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved. You’ll receive training before and during camp, and experience with children is helpful but not required.

To join summer camp, you must be 18 by June 1st and available for 9–11 weeks from May to June. Support staff must be students; camp counselors don’t need to be. A police check, three professional references, and basic English are required. Applications close mid to late April.

You might not be placed with a friend, but job fairs can help improve your chances. First-timers are matched by Camp Leaders, though returning applicants with a camp offer can still apply for visa sponsorship. Bring at least $1000, and budget based on your travel plans.
