Pre-departure Preparation

You’ll travel to camp on a J1 Visa, not an ESTA. If Camp Leaders arranged your flight, you’ll get flight details by email at least 10 days before departure. Bring all required documents and be prepared for immigration questions.

Before traveling, check your phone plan, notify your bank of your trip, and bring $200 cash plus a credit card. Make social media accounts private, and review your camp’s online policies. Expect limited phone service at some camps and always follow camp rules closely.

Stay updated on COVID-19 guidelines and follow your camp’s protocols to stay safe. For U.S. connecting flights, re-check your luggage and check screens for gate changes. File a lost luggage claim at the airport if needed. Always carry your printed onward travel instructions and contact Camp Leaders if you need help.

Arriving at camp can be intense, so take time to settle in, get involved, and look after your wellbeing. You’ll receive training for your role and camp policies. Follow all camp rules; especially around alcohol, drugs, and child protection, as violations can lead to dismissal or legal action. Use your time off to recharge and reach out if you need support.
