Why should I teach waterskiing/wakeboarding at camp?

If you love the exhilaration of being on the water, the fast pace and coaching wakeboarding/water skiing - then this is the summer job abroad for you.

You should be enthusiastic and have a proactive attitude. Being a waterskiing/wakeboarding instructor is all about providing the energy and encouragement for a fun lesson along with the knowledge to give safe instruction.

Don’t just instruct, do it in the US of A and have an absolutely incredible summer with Camp leaders.

What does a water-skiing or wakeboarding instructor do?

Water-skiing and wakeboarding are definitely the most fast-paced water sport activities at camp. Speeding around the lake, is there a more exciting and invigorating way to spend your summer mornings and afternoons?

Campers can’t get enough of waterskiing/wakeboarding and will all run down to the lakefront to be first in line. As the waterskiing/wakeboard instructor at camp you’ll work closely with other lake staff, including the lifeguards and motorboat instructors. You’ll be there to encourage and support skiers/riders and help the campers develop their technique and fundamental skills. Based down at the lake, you’ll assist campers in the skills and techniques involved in the sport, working with small groups for each session.

A director will want to know all about your skill set and what you specialise in, from racing, barefoot, kneeboard, slalom, trick, jump or wakeskate - go into detail about your own qualifications and what drew you to this sport.

Water skiing in America, on a Lake surrounded by an outstanding backdrop? Sounded too good to be true to me as well, but as soon as i spoke to Camp leaders i realised this could become a reality. I had an amazing summer teaching kids to water ski, and seeing them smile ear to ear from rides on the speed boat.

It's an experience I'll remember year after year!

Frequently asked questions

How can I make my waterskiing and wakeboarding application stronger?

Having the qualifications to instruct is going to make all the difference when applying for wakeboarding and waterskiing jobs in America. If this is a skill set you are interested in then look to your local club or waterfront and enquire about getting the experience.

How do I become a wakeboarding/waterskiing instructor at camp?

When you begin your application you’ll be asked to select your top skills. Make sure you choose wakeboarding or water skiing and really tell us what you’re going to bring to the waterfront. List your qualifications and be confident in your skill level. A camp director will then be able to assess if you’re a good fit and invite you to their camp.

How many children should I expect to teach in one lesson?

Campers will come down to the session as a division (age group). Divisions can range from 10-30 campers. You’ll then be paired with a camper or a small group. Campers will usually learn as a small group on the shore then one at a time in the water. Campers love both of these activities so prepare to be popular!
