This weekend we felt like writing something a little cheesy, so we’re serving you up a saucy slice of heaven with doughy delights.

It's the 12 BEST PIZZERIAS in the USA, Y’all!

We're putting down the burgers and shakes to make way and welcome the trending toppings and quintessential American food icon, that warms the hearts, plates and menu's of restaurants throughout the USA, Pizza.

There's no doubt pizza is a charming crowd pleaser, and there are so many different ways to enjoy it; perhaps you'd like to stick to the traditions but you can always indulge in a breakfast bagel pizza, a lunchtime takeaway taco slice, deep dish dinner or even some decadent dessert creme brulee and chocolate stacks. Amen to that.

Pizza you will find on just about each and every street corner, and in many cities like Brooklyn, Chicago and Los Angeles, you can even book your own guided pizza tours (Legends!), it's that good. We're simply here to guide you to the pizza light and share our favourites in America.

Firstly, did you know that many of the East Coast districts of; New York, Boston, Chicago and Philadelphia refer to their beloved whole pizza as a ‘Pie’, so today we welcome to the Camp Leaders edition of ‘The Life of Pie'.

1. The Art of Pizza, Chicago

The Art of Pizza is well regarded for taking Chicago style deep dish Pizza to a whole new level and is regularly voted # 1 deepdish in the city. Think the opposite of a thin crust and indulge in high edges and layers upon layers of cheese and traditional gourmet fillings, making it resemble more of a pie-meets pizza style of dish. There's the option to have your crust stuffed too (nom nom nom), let the eating begin.

Our top tip is to take a group of friends, be ready for the feast and try the Arts Southwestern with BBQ sauce, beef, onion, bacon.

2. Motorino, Brooklyn

Located in Brooklyn, Motorino is one of the trendy, upmarket and warm little places which you walk into and instantly feel at home. With bright spaces, sky high ceilings and all the little touches of pizza prepped paraphernalia around the place...and we haven’t even got to the menu selections yet.

At Motorino, they are all about authentic quality ingredients, including a 30 hour fermentation process for the Italian dough alone, before it makes its way into the oven. We're pretty happy we've been here and we're pretty sure these are the best Neopolitan and gourmet pizzas in New York. Big call but we're putting it out there.

Try the classics or go for the signature brussel sprouts and smoked bacon - don't be put off by the name, it's an icon and tastes so good.

3. Lombardis, New York

Welcome to Lombardi's, America's very first Pizzeria in New York City. Located within the Little Italy district of Manhattan, you will be tasting a slice of their history and you'll know why they've been in business since 1905. Think of traditional style seating, dining and get prepared to order a classic margarita on a thin crust and add your trending toppings as you wish from there.

Top tip - It's a busy little place, so we suggest to book ahead.

4. Jon & Vinny's, Los Angeles

Jon & Vinny's is a modern LA Pizzeria hotspot that we really adore and a must-try when you're on roadtripping your way around California. Be cool, book ahead and be ready for the experience. We're not just talking about the pizza, but the garlic bread, fist-sized meatballs, and chocolate-sea salt crackling caramel desserts on offer.

Our top tip, try the 'LA Woman Pizza'.

5. Pizzeria Vetri, Philadelphia

One of the new-comers to the Pizza scene is Pizzeria Vetri, Philadelphia. It may have only opened its doors a few years back now, but it's making leaps and bounds with its specialised authentic Italian pizza making and passion for localised produce from sea and market, making 'just about everything from scratch', you're onto a winner if you make a night out here. The thing we love about this place is that each year they put together a 'summer pie' menu and calzones.

Our top tip, try the Melanzana!

6. 800 Degrees, Los Angeles

If you haven't made a trek to Westwood in Cali, now you've got a good reason to, as 800 Degrees recently opened its doors and is an amazing pit stop for a fast-casual on the go saucy delight, winning the hearts of LA locals. What makes this place so special?

Well, you get to pick your base, and then you'll have an extensive list of locally sourced gourmet toppings and charcuterie, ready to be loaded onto your base. 60 seconds in the oven and voila. Ready to roll.

Our top tip is to get some bruschetta here too, top notch!

7. Una Pizza Napoletana, San Francisco

We love the stories behind this place and especially hearing that Owner Anthony Mangiere does everything by hand and by himself with a true passion. Anthony orders all of his ingredients from Italy and wood fires them into a masterpiece and claims he has 'made every single pizza in the 18 years of business' - pretty spectacular.

This place is a rare find and we could suggest everything on the menu but we must hail its signature dish, the 'Apollonia Pie' but go for it all. You can't go wrong here.

8. Armandos, Boston

Armandos is a bit of a local hero and institution in the Boston district, well-regarded for its local community support. You'll notice more of an American Diner vibe, as it's adorned with ribbons, trophies and statues recognising the local sporting teams it sponsors. It’s a traditional, family run business that consistently makes pizza that makes you want to jump on Instagram and spread the word.

Try the Sicilian slice to go. A big thumbs-up from us.

9. The Sugar Factory, Las Vegas

We've decided to include The Sugar Factory, Las Vegas here, which is a little different to the traditional Pizzeria's we're boasting about but worthy of a mention for the high quality of the decadent dessert pizza's on offer at the establishment sitting pretty below the plush Paris Hotel on the Vegas strip. All you need to do is to look for the Eiffel Tower (not the real one, of course) and grab a menu for sweet tooth temptation.

Our top tip is to try the Chocolate Chocolate Pizza or Nutella Supremacy.

10. Pizzeria Locale, Colorado

Just looking at the outside makes you want to step a foot in the door, but the real surprise and sensation awaits when you walk inside. Inspired to become a true Napolitano Pizzeria and not just inspired by one, they have designed every ounce of the establishment and menu to do so. You will see the elegance of the dining room, filled with colours, marble and wooden textures ...and then comes to the wood fire oven.amen.

We'd be silly not to recommend the classic Napoletana and we also adore the Amatriciana. Simply delicious.

11. Gusto Pizza Co, Iowa

There are so many reasons for you to become a 'Gustomer', with this lovable, charming pizza and sandwich joint is serving up delights with some unconventional and unthinkable flavour combinations, definitely refreshing for the senses. They also have signature street food vans whipping up some winners for you throughout Iowa. Our favourites here are the; The Soprano with chicken and pesto, and the Thai Kwon Dough with peanut sauce, peppers and cilantro. How they describe themselves; 'A place for people to hang without losing their shirt, where napkins don’t cost extra, and high fives and belly laughs are free'. We love this place, the flavours and the people behind it all.

12. Frank Pepe Pizzeria, New Haven, Connecticut

What a beautiful place, and what a beautiful place to sit down, relax and have a slice of 'New Haven'. Frank Pepe's, established in 1925 are part of a small town, filled with East Coast location but true southern hospitality here. They know what they're doing with the oven and are famous for their 'Tomato Pies' and 'White Clams' seafood assortments.

We suggest trying the white clam seafood pizza with a side of pecorino sprinkled pasta. Join the Pepe's club, you can even get your signature t-shirt to take home.

Now has this got your tongues wagging? Yeah, ours too. It's no surprise that pizza is one of the world’s most popular foods, and is enjoyed by 1 in 8 Americans on any given day, with 350 slices being eaten per second.

Naples should be proud for introducing this heavenly food into the world and we hope you get a chance to check out our favourite slices. If you experience your own pizza heaven, please share it with us on Insta too.
